Why you should clean your engine with dry ice

Conventional cleaning methods mostly work with water or chemicals. These methods pose a significant risk to the electronics, sensors and seals in the engine bay.

Cleaning the engine bay with dry ice is considerably gentler: −79 °C CO₂ is used, which turns into a gaseous state upon impact with a surface. This process is called sublimation.

  • Sustainable: no chemicals, no waste to dispose of
  • Gentle: cables, seals and electronics are not subjected to any stress
  • Dry and residue-free: no water, no residues in the engine bay
  • Easy to handle: the engine can be cleaned while installed
  • Mobile use: compact devices for flexible and independent application

How dry ice engine cleaning works

When cleaning the engine bay with dry ice, the CO₂ pellets hit the surface at high speed. The thermal shock that occurs effectively detaches contamination. Neither water nor chemical residues are generated, and no sludge forms. Only loosened dirt particles need to be picked up from the floor.

Dry ice cleaning of the engine takes just a few steps. To provide extra protection, sensitive components should be covered. The dry ice jet then removes even stubborn deposits in the engine bay without residue — no chemicals, no water.

Fields of application in practice

Cleaning the engine bay with dry ice is suitable for almost every combustion engine — regardless of vehicle class or area of use:

  • Classic and youngtimer cars — cleaning without damaging paint or material
  • Automotive detailing — crucial for increasing resale value
  • Workshops — significantly shortens maintenance preparation
  • Fleet and commercial vehicles — particularly effective at high duty cycles

More cost-effectiveness and sustainability

Cleaning the engine bay with dry ice not only reduces cleaning effort, but also downtimes and maintenance costs, and minimises long-term damage caused by dirt deposits. With a device from Dry Ice Energy, cleaning times are reduced by up to 40 percent.

At the same time, there is no need for energy or water, which makes the method particularly sustainable. Occupational safety is also improved: employees are not exposed to harmful oil or chemical residues.

The right devices for engine cleaning

Our dry ice blasting devices can be used easily and without requiring much space. They work quietly and reliably — and convince in mobile use at any time.

  • Champ Turbo — compact, powerful and ideal for flexible use
  • Champ Vario — particularly material-friendly thanks to adjustable settings
